eSIM Frequently Asked Questions

Sometimes known as electronic SIM cards, eSIM actually stands for embedded SIM. As the name suggests, this means that SIM functionality can now be integrated directly into the device, rather than a separate card needing to be inserted.

In case you have the eSIM capable phone or tablet, you can use an eSIM instead of the regular physical SIM card.

TravelSim SIM cards come with a European number starting with +372.

You can also buy a UK or US number as an alternative number for an international eSIM.

TravelSim eSIM can be used with the following devices:

In case your device is not listed here but it´s compatible with eSIM, then Travelsim eSIM can be used.

TravelSim international eSIM enables you to make calls, send SMS and use data.

Travelsim Asia eSIM enables you to use data and send SMS. No calls available. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp

You can select the data plan you need among our wide range of prepaid data plans. Depending on your destination and data consumption, we provide global or area-specific data plans.
Once you have selected the data plan you want based on your travel destination, just click on “buy”. Your data plan will be added to your TravelSim Account.

eSIM data plans activate automatically when you try to open a browser or use data. On physical SIM cards the data plans need to be activated before any usage under My Account.

Your Data Plan will activate automatically after the eSIM Installation. The validity of the plan starts on the activation day (the activation day is included).

To avoid using data before your trip, turn off roaming on all your mobile data plans and turn it on when you have arrived at your destination. Please make sure “data roaming” is switched on for TravelSim eSIM when you want to use data with TravelSim.

Keep “Allow Mobile Data Switching” turned off to avoid additional roaming charges.

TravelSim airtime/credit lasts one year (12 months) from your last recharge/top-up. Your eSIM card will stay “live” as long as you recharge/top up once a year.

You can add different data plans to your SIM cards depending on your destination.

You can add credit easily online at any time. You simply have to choose whether you would like to add some airtime or a data plan and make the payment (via credit card, PayPal or other payment methods). After successful payment, your airtime is added to your SIM card.

When you add a new data plan, your plan activates automatically when you try to use the data.

Steps to add data plan.

• Go to “My Account” area
• Choose a data plan
• Make payment
• Your data plan will activate automatically when you try to use the data for the first time.

TravelSim eSIM works in over 135+ destinations all around the world.

Asia eSIM can be used only in Australia, Cambodia, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates.

However, in many Asian countries, Asia eSIM has a better price for data. We recommend choosing your destination country and comparing the pricing here

Asia eSIM data plans can´t be used with international eSIM (also, international eSIM data plans can´t be used with international eSIM).

Either is possible. Buy it right before you leave or when you arrive at your destination, whichever is most convenient for you. TravelSim data plans have different validity periods, and the validity period starts upon the first usage.

If you haven’t purchased a plan before leaving, you can also buy your data plan when you arrive at your destination.

Please keep in mind that you have to switch the service provider to TravelSim when you start your travels. eSIM functionality enable you to use multiple carriers, so you have to make sure that you´ll switch on TravelSim before your travel.

We also recommend you to switch off the “allow Mobile Data Switching” – otherwise you would risk roaming on your primary carrier.

Please note that if you have installed an eSIM on one device, you can´t install the same eSIM (use the same QR code) on another phone or device. You have to order a new eSIM for another device.

You can install the same eSIM into another device if you have deleted the eSIM from your first device.

Please note that if you have lost your device or your device was stolen, the eSIM is still active on this device and can´t be installed on a new device. It can be done only if it was deleted from your old device.

Yes, you can delete the eSIM from one device and install it into the new device.

Yes, we can change your existing TravelSim physical SIM card to an eSIM card and also keep the same number.

Please note that the coverage and data plans are different for physical SIM cards and eSIM cards. Please check the eSIM coverage and data plans before the switch.

Yes, TravelSim has a special offer for the Olympic Games in France.

You can buy a 25GB data plan or an unlimited data plan and stay connected in France. Both data plans are also valid in the rest of the European Union countries, so you can freely use the same data plan when you visit other European countries as well. The 25GB data plan is also valid in the UK and Switzerland.

Under ” My Account,” you can also add credit to your SIM for calls and SMS.

Mobile Hotspot is allowed with both data plans.
