Die Highlights von New York

New York City, the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps. Yes, beloved children have many names and there is no doubt that New York is one of the coolest cities in the world. The successful mix of different cultures, architectural masterpieces, trendy rooftop bars, countless sights and the hustle and bustle attracts millions of visitors each year. There is something for every taste when shopping. And yes, that may sound a bit cliché, but there is always something going on in New York. In this article I would like to introduce you to my personal highlights of New York.

5th Avenue

If you enjoy shopping, there is no way around 5th Avenue. 5th Avenue leads right through Manhattan and offers shopping for all budgets and tastes. There are countless shops, from major international chains such as H & M or Uniqlo, to exclusive boutiques of Prada, Chanel and Balenciaga.

Brooklyn

A trendy area with many trendy cafés, bars and restaurants. The streets are decorated with street art and you will not get out of amazement anymore. A visit to Brooklyn is an absolute must when staying in New York City! (At least if you want to experience authentic New York).

The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is also on every to-do list for New York. However, there are often long queues if you want to see Lady Liberty up close. A great alternative and a real insider tip is a ferry ride to Staten Island. The ferry goes right past the statue and instead of standing in line you enjoy a nice drive over the Hudson.

From the boat you have a perfect view of the entire statue. And do you know what’s best about it? If you have a metro card, the ferry ride is even free.

Times Square

One of the busiest places in the world. Here you will find a crazy mix of crowds, skyscrapers, flashing billboard and street performers. The hustle and bustle of Times Square is unique and you just have to experience the atmosphere yourself.

In addition to skyscrapers and crowds, there are also great shopping opportunities such as Forever21, Ralph Lauren, the Disney Store and many more!

Chinatown

Traveling to New York to visit Chinatown may sound strange at first, but New York’s Chinatown is one of the largest in the world and definitely worth a visit, at least if you like Chinese food and are interested in Chinese culture.

The best time of the year to visit Chinatown is the Chinese New Year. Then the whole neighborhood turns into a huge party with colorful parades and people disguised as dragons and monsters.

If you want to try authentic Chinese cuisine, then you should choose a restaurant in which also eat the local Chinese.

View of the New York skyline from Brooklyn Bridge  Park

If you want to see the skyscrapers of New York in their full glory, I highly recommend you go to Brooklyn Bridge Park. From there you have one of the best views of the city on the massive structures of Manhattan. Therefore, it is not surprising that the place is very popular with photographers.

The Central Park

A famous New York attraction. Central Park is a green oasis in the middle of the busy city, and New Yorker locals love to come here to relax and escape the stress of city life for a while. Central Park is the perfect spot for a picnic or long walks in nature.

Do not be alarmed if the squirrels living here approach you dangerously and look for food. They are almost domesticated and like to share the park with visitors who carry food.

The view from the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock

A visit to the observation decks of the Empire State Building or the Top of the Rock is an absolute must in New York. From the observation deck on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, there is a spectacular view of Manhattan and from Top of the Rock you have a great view of Central Park and of course the many New York skyscrapers.

Drink cocktails in a rooftop bar

Sipping a cocktail amidst New York’s rooftops is a very special experience that you should not miss. So if you want to get a glimpse into the life of a real New Yorker, be sure to visit one of the many rooftop bars in the city. Enjoy a drink or two and let the fantastic views overwhelm you.

There is definitely enough choice – everything from chic to casual.

A tour of the Ground Zero Memorial

One of the city’s most visited attractions is Ground Zero, a memorial to all the victims who fell victim to the terrible 9/11 attacks. Ground Zero is a place that evokes strong emotions!

A walk over the Brooklyn Bridge

Another popular activity you’ve probably seen in many movies. Do not miss the legendary bridge during your stay in New York. The view over the river to the skyscrapers is spectacular. A great experience, both during the day and at night.

Other activities in New York

Visit in a musical

Also very popular when staying in New York is visiting a Broadway musical. Some of the best known are the Lion King, the Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables. If you would like to see a particular show, you should definitely buy your tickets in advance, as the tickets are often sold out very quickly.

If you’re a bit more flexible in terms of time and musical, you can go early in the morning and buy last-minute tickets. A real insider tip, because the last-minute tickets are much cheaper than the regular tickets.

Grand Central Terminal

An architectural masterpiece. The Central Station is just breathtaking both from the outside and the inside. Even more exciting is a visit to the Grand Central Station at peak times, when hundreds of thousands of people flock through the station.

Like so much in New York, a symbolic place that has been featured in many films.

Ellis Island

This historic island was one the gateway to the promised land for the immigrants when they arrived in the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Coney Island

Coney Island is known primarily for the legendary amusement park but there is also a really nice beach promenade if you feel like bathing.

Century 21

A great outlet mall with designer brands. If you are looking for clothes at a bargain price, then you are exactly right. Here you will find almost everything you can imagine. However, Century 21 is huge, so you should bring enough time because here you can spend an hour or two.

hockey

Visiting a hockey game is very popular with both locals and tourists. New York is home to the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders, both of whom play in the NHL.

However, the ticket prices are salted ($ 200- $ 350) and yet tickets are often sold out quickly. So if you want to go to a game, you should take care of tickets early.

The atmosphere of a Madison Square Garden game is magical!

basketball

Not only is hockey played at Madison Square Garden. The New York Knicks are also at home in the arena.

baseball

Visiting a Yankee game is definitely an experience. The feeling of sitting in the Yankee Stadium alone is unique and the entrance fees for a baseball game are much more humane than the ticket prices for hockey and basketball.

If you’re lucky you might even be in New York when the Yankees are playing against the Red Sox.
